Suzuki Talent Education Program: Fee $195.00 for one semester. (15, 1 hour workshops, Awards Recital, Book Exams, extra performances) Suzuki Talent Education Program fee does not apply to Flute, Harp and Piano.

Suzuki Piano Instructors: Martha Sparks, Lynn Trippy, Polya Bankova

Suzuki Piano instruction may begin as early as age four with the
instructor’s approval. Lessons are correlated with workshops throughout
the semester to help stimulate learning experiences. Emphasis is
on the mastery of materials and technique developed through performance
and ensemble playing.

Suzuki Flute Instructor:
Bonnie Buhler-Tanouye

Suzuki Flute instruction may begin at age 4. The first year of study is
devoted to tone production, proper breathing, body posture listening and
stylistic playing. For younger students, special curved head joint flutes
may be used.

Suzuki Harp Instructor:
Tara Ogden-Skoussen

Suzuki Harp students may start as early as age 5. During the first year of
study, the student will become comfortable with correct hand position
and learn about rhythms and the differences between pitches and
chords. The student will also learn how to handle, tune and care for the
instrument. Harps are available in different types and sizes, including
sizes for children.


Junior Violin Ensemble 90-minute class

15 weeks - $225.00
Monday - 4:30-6:00 pm
Instructor: Mary Straub

Suzuki Violin students in Books VI - VIII, upon recommendation of their
violin teachers, are encouraged to enroll in this class. The class includes
the study of technical skills, scales and arpeggios and work to improve
sight-reading skills. Suzuki and other standard literature are the core of
the curriculum. The emphasis of this class is on developing ensemble
playing and musicianship in a friendly and creative atmosphere.
Students in this ensemble perform regularly in the community.

Advanced Violin Repertoire Ensemble 90-minute class
15 weeks - $225.00
Monday - 3:00-4:30 pm
Instructors: Mary Straub, Shakeh Ghoukasian

Violin students must audition to enroll in this class and be recommended
by their teacher. It is open to high school students.

The class concentrates on ensemble playing skills, study of standard
violin repertoire and performance skills. Opportunities to perform and
study with nationally known artists and pedagogues are presented
during the year.

The students have the opportunity to study and interact with their peers
in a friendly yet disciplined atmosphere.

Nevada School of the Arts Violin Repertory Ensemble has been a
showcase for the school for more than twenty years. The Advanced
Violin Ensemble has been featured at three, by invitation only, national
music educator’s conferences including the 2003 Chicago Midwest
Clinic, the 2005 American String Teachers National conference and the
2006 Suzuki Association of the Americas Conference. All of the violinists
from this award-winning ensemble have gone on to make wonderful
contributions to society and have become examplary human beings.
